Fares Ibrahim ElSayed Hassona El-Bakh born 4 June 1998, commonly known as Meso Hassona, is a Qatari weightlifter, Olympic Champion and two time Junior World Champion competing in the 85 kg, and 94 kg categories until 2018 and 96 kg starting in 2018 after the International Weightlifting Federation reorganized the categories.

FARES EL BAKH IS A PART OF TEAM QATAR REPRESENTING the country at the international level and bringing new achievements to QATAR. After Fares got his gold medal at Tokyo 2020 Olympic games The President of the Olympic Committee, Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad, expressed his happiness with the“achievement”, and gifted it to the Emir of Qatar, SheikhTamim bin Hamad, and his father, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa,“and to all the people of Qatar and all the Arabs.”

The QOC Secretary General H.E. Jassim bin Rashid Al-Buenain congratulated the HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the Qatari government and H.E. QOC President Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani on the outstanding achievement of team Qatar star Fares Ibrahim who claimed the Men’s weightlifting 96kg gold medal at Tokyo Olympics on Saturday.

Al-Buenain said that this historic gold medal and the new Olympic record that were secured by our rising star Fares Ibrahim is an outcome of a significant work done by the Qatar Weightlifting and Fencing Federation in compliance with the QOC strategy.

Team Qatar weightlifter Fares Ibrahim wins gold and silver in 2021 World Championships
DOHA – Qatar’s Olympic Gold medalist and champion Fares Ibrahim went down in the history on Tuesday, after winning gold and silver medals at the 2021 World Weighting Championships, taking place in Uzbekistan capital of Tashkent.

Qatar superstar has fought tooth and nail to claim the clean & Jerk gold medal with a lift of 229kg and clinched total silver medal with 394kg , setting new standards of excellence to the Qatar’s sport achievements.

In a post event statement on Tuesday , the president of Qatar Weightlifting Federation, Mr. Mohammed Yousef Al Mana has described Fares victory in Uzbekistan as a confirmation to his glorious gold medal he achieved in Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Mr. Al Mana also dedicated this new record of achievement to the Qatar’s wise leadership , who always spare no effort to support the country sport movement at the local , regional and international levels.
The Qatari champion Ibrahim said:” I’m really happy of this achievement and hope to gain more experience that could help me to set better records in the upcoming championships, particularly 2024 Paris Olympics.
